VIAPROSG is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet developed for viability projections of either sheep or goat farming enterprises from extensive agricultural grazing land. The projection is done for a 20-year period.
Prospected and existing sheep and goat farmers frequently want to know what the financial viability of small stock farming is. Such information is required for different reasons, such as:
business plans for prospected farmers to be used in the negotiations with financial institutions for the obtaining of finance
as business plan when existing farmers are considering extension of the current farming business
to determine prices that can be paid for land and livestock
to determine how much can be paid for renting of veld
to determine the financial impact of short term decisions on the long term financial sustainability of farming businesses, eg. impact of buying a new vehicle, impact of sending children for further studies, etc.
VIAPROSG integrates relevant physical, production, management, economic and financial information to do the projection. All of this information is entered into the “Input” and “Health” sheets of the spreadsheet. The projection is then viewed or printed from the “Output” sheet. The input data can also be printed from the “Input” sheet. The print ranges have already been set for the convenience of the user.
Viapro will not function correctly if the Analysis ToolPak of Excel is not installed. To do this, run the Setup program to install the Analysis ToolPak. After you install the Analysis ToolPak, you must enable it by using the Add-Ins command on the Tools menu.
