MONDE MAPEKULA OBTAINS
Ph.D.
Mr Monde Mapekula, Deputy Director: Animal Production, Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute, Middelburg EC, obtained his Ph.D.degree (Animal Science) from the University of Fort Hare. The title of his thesis is “Milk Production and Calf Performance in Nguni and Crossbred Cattle Raised on Communal Rangelands of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa”.
He completed matric (Grade 12) at Mareledwane High School in Peddie. He then studied at the Cape College of Education in Fort Beaufort for a three year Secondary Teachers’ Diploma. At the same time he completed a three year Business Management Diploma at Unisa. He then taught at Mareledwane High School.
He studied Mathematics in his spare time and in 1997 he enrolled at the University of Fort Hare for a B.Sc.degree. He completed his M.Sc. Agric in 2001. He worked for Fort Cox of Agricultural College as a lecturer, the Department of Agriculture in Port Elizabeth as an Animal Scientist and as a Senior Research Scientist at Dohne Agricultural Research Institute. While he worked at Dohne Agricultural Development Institute, he enrolled for his Ph.D. degree.
The Ph.D. degree was awarded on 8th May 2010.
